Mid Sussex is a local governmental district in West Sussex. It has a population of 144,377 as of mid-2014. Like many new districts in the country, Mid Sussex was formed in April 1974 through a merger of the urban districts of Cuckfield, Burgess Hill and East Grinstead, as well as nearly all of Cuckfield Rural.
The highest populated towns in the area include Burgess Hill, East Grinstead and Haywards Heath, which have populations of 28,803, 23,942 and 22,800 respectively. They all act as the commercial and industrial centres of the area.
The Prime Meridian passes through the district, as does most of the headwaters of the River Ouse.
Homes owned by their occupants, with or without a loan make up more than 85% of Mid Sussex housing.
